Sewer and Water Back-Up Moratorium

As many of you are aware, deep snowpack and current rainfall are raising concerns over flooding in the upper Midwest. As a result, Western National is placing a moratorium, effective the date of this notice, on adding or increasing Water Back-Up and Sump Discharge or Overflow coverage to in-force Homeowner and Dwelling Property policies.

We will accept new submissions if the prior insurance for the residence included Water Back-Up and Sump Discharge or Overflow coverage at a limit equal to or greater than the limit selected on the new Western National policy.

Please do not bind Water Back-Up and Sump Discharge or Overflow coverage to new submissions if the residence to which this coverage applies is a new purchase. Instead, contact your Personal Lines Underwriter to discuss the risk.

For additional information about this coverage, you can click here to view the Water Back-Up and Sump Discharge or Overflow coverage form. Although this form includes a 30-day waiting period under certain circumstances, the moratorium is being issued in anticipation of a prolonged flooding period this spring.

We will follow up with an additional notice advising when this moratorium ends. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please contact your Personal Lines Underwriting Team.
