WNIG Achieves $500 Million Policyholder Surplus Milestone, Announces First Quarter Results
We are pleased to announce Western National Insurance Group’s financial results through March 31, 2019, including the significant milestone of reaching $500 million in Policyholder Surplus. Noteworthy financial measures include:
- Total Assets of $1.3 billion
- Direct Written Premium of $180.8 million
- Combined ratio of 94.7%
- Surplus of $506.6 million
These figures reflect the combined performance of all Group companies, including Western National Mutual Insurance Company and its subsidiaries: American Freedom Insurance Company, Arizona Automobile Insurance Company, Nevada General Insurance Company, Pioneer Specialty Insurance Company, Umialik Insurance Company, Western National Assurance Company, and Western Home Insurance Company. These numbers do not include results from affiliates.
Our first quarter results provide a new level of financial strength and security for our Group and its policyholders, including a move into Financial Size Category X (from IX). In 2001, our Policyholder Surplus was just over $63.8 million. Thanks to a strong business plan and the hard work of our employees and agency partners, we surpassed $100 million in 2004, and we continued to build on that financial foundation in the years that followed. Our strong financial standing has been recognized by Ward Group as a “Ward’s Top 50” property-and-casualty company for 13 out of the past 14 years and by A.M. Best Company with an “A+” (Superior) rating.
