Western National Homeowner Program – Conditional Renewal Advisory – Eff. 8-1-2018

Western National is currently sending conditional renewal notices to Homeowner customers. This required notice announces changes being made to coverage on renewals effective August 1, 2018 and later. We are providing the following information to you in case a policyholder contacts you with questions or concerns about the change.

Water Losses – Policy renewals will now exclude water, humidity, moisture, or vapor caused by continuous or repeated seepage or leakage that occurs over a period of 14 days or more. Previously, the policy covered this type of loss if no policyholder knew of or could reasonably be expected to suspect such a loss. This new language is consistent with coverage forms used by other carriers and with coverage provided by Western National prior to our adoption of the AAIS 2014 Homeowner form revisions.

Pre-Award Interest Exclusion (Minnesota only) – Language has been added to clarify that if a claim dispute goes to appraisal and an award is made in favor of the policyholder, the policy does not cover pre-award interest.

Policyholders will receive the required Conditional Renewal Notice about 60 days prior to the renewal. Additionally, a Policyholder Notice, which outlines the changes in more detail, will be included with all Homeowner renewals. The renewal along with the Policyholder Notice will be mailed 35 days prior to the renewal effective date.
