An Update on Claims Processes & COVID-19 at Umialik Insurance Company
Dear Agency Partner,
During the unprecedented COVID-19 outbreak, the Umialik Claims Team considers the health and safety of our employees, vendors, and policyholders of the utmost importance. We also recognize that our policyholders rely on us to promptly handle claims that may be disruptive to their daily lives.
Throughout this time, Umialik will continue to use our staff and approved Independent Adjusters/Appraisers for property inspections and auto estimates. We will work on a case-bycase basis to determine if the claim can be resolved using photos, video conferencing, or other virtual capabilities.
Property Losses
Exterior inspections can generally be completed with no issues by exercising appropriate social distancing. For
interior inspections, in order to maintain a safe distance, we may choose to conduct a virtual inspection using
technology to view the damage. In these cases, we may request that our policyholders assist in obtaining photos,
video, measurements, and/or estimates. The Umialik claims adjuster will promptly contact the policyholder to
determine the most appropriate method for the adjustment of a claim on a case-by-case basis.
Auto Losses
Most auto inspections are done outdoors, and the appraiser is able to maintain an acceptable distance. At this time,
Umialik does not foresee any necessary changes to our current auto appraisal process.
Our goal is to make the process as smooth as possible for our policyholders, while also observing public health recommendations.
