Umialik Insurance Company COVID-19 Update – Personal Auto Premium Relief, Payment Flexibility, & More
In recognition of the hardship that the COVID-19 situation and its economic impacts have brought upon many of our policyholders, as well as the fact that many Personal Auto policyholders are temporarily driving less as the result of “stay at home / shelter in place” orders, Umialik has been carefully evaluating a number of different options for providing both premium relief and payment flexibility to our customers in need. Today we are pleased to announce several actions that we are taking on behalf of our policyholders, including offering premium relief in the amount of 15% on Personal Auto policyholders’ premiums for April and May. The full details of that Personal Auto premium relief program, which remains subject to regulatory approval, will be confirmed and communicated to you in the coming days.
In addition to this Personal Auto premium relief program, the following new programs have been put into place to ensure flexibility for our customers in need:
- Through June 1, 2020, we will not be canceling Personal Lines policies due to non-payment of premium. (However, please note: policies that have been issued a renewal will expire if not paid. Policyholders that wish to renew their coverage may call us to discuss options for extending coverage.)
- We will work with every insured who needs premium billing relief to ensure that we are flexible and that they can change billing timing.
- We will continue to provide coverage under Personal Auto policies when a covered person uses their personal vehicle in the usually excluded business activity of delivering food, groceries, and/or pharmacy items.
- We will not file any new rate increases for Personal Auto in any state through at least June 1, 2020 (and may extend that further, and even file for reduction in rates if loss numbers so indicate).
- The Penalty Free Promise® for Personal Auto continues, meaning you will never see an increase related to a ticket or accident.
While the COVID-19 situation has been challenging for everyone, we are confident that measures like these will help ensure that our customers’ Umialik obligations do not pose an undue burden during this difficult and uncertain time.
