Western National Named to 2022 Ward’s Top 50

Western National was once again named to the Ward's 50 Benchmark Group of top performing U.S. property-and-casualty companies. Being named to this group recognizes Western National for achieving outstanding financial results in the areas of safety, consistency, and performance over a five-year period (2017 – 2021). Inclusion in this elite group of top performing property-and-casualty insurance companies reinforces the continued financial strength and stability of Western National Insurance Group. This achievement is

made possible through your support, the support of our policyholders, and the contribution of all our outstanding employees, one relationship at a time.

Second Quarter Financials

Through June 30, 2022, written premium for our Group (not including affiliate Michigan Millers) is at $428.3 million – which puts us in a good position for the second half of the year from a premium standpoint. Our loss ratio is 59.2% (vs. goal of 52.9%), our loss adjustment expense ratio is 10.5% (vs. goal of 10.8%), and our underwriting expense ratio is 28.9% (vs. goal of 30.8%) – adding up to a combined ratio of 98.5%. Not surprisingly, the storm activity in recent months has impacted these numbers. We are hoping for a less eventful second half of the year so we can improve some of these numbers.

Recent Recognitions and Designations

In addition to being named to this year’s Ward’s Top 50, Western National has received several other recognitions. Earlier this summer, Western National was named one of the Star Tribune’s Top 200 Workplaces in Minnesota. Top Workplaces recognizes the most progressive companies in Minnesota based on employee opinions measuring engagement, organizational health, and satisfaction.

For three years, we have retained our gold-level Green Business Award from the city of Edina where our Minnesota office is located. This recognition acknowledges and celebrates businesses that have taken actions to become more environmentally responsible in their day-to-day operations.

In recognition of our well-being initiatives at our offices, we have been named an mspWellness Champion. This designation celebrates organizations that work to positively affect the health and well-being of their employees and communities.
