In early May, seven Western National employees volunteered with Minneapolis Parks and Recreation to help clean up the Community Garden and other beds at Sibley Park in Minneapolis. The group spent time weeding the main garden that is used in one of the after-school recreation programs, cleaning up the honeyberry and strawberry bed that is open to the public, and removing dandelions.
The group was also able to participate in a special project to help straighten out some fencing that was in rough shape. It was a perfect afternoon for gardening and a wonderful opportunity to get to know other employees outside of work.
On Friday, May 19, Western National employees had the opportunity to volunteer with Cornerstone, a Bloomington-based nonprofit organization that provides services to people who have experienced trauma due to domestic violence, sexual violence, human trafficking, or general crime. The volunteers spent the afternoon clearing branches, trash, weeds, and sucker trees.
Volunteers from Western National and Holmes Murphy & Associates participated in a team-building event at Second Harvest Heartland on Tuesday, May 23. Our combined team packaged nearly 20,000 pounds of food, which will be distributed to local food shelves. Western National also provided a financial donation to Second Harvest Heartland.
On Thursday, June 15, a group of Western National employees volunteered at VEAP, the Twin Cities’ largest food pantry that provides access to healthy foods, social services, and financial assistance. The group spent their morning sorting bags of onions, apples, and potatoes, as well as shopping through the pantry to fulfill orders.
In June, Western National employees also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity at a new-build construction site in Chaska, Minnesota. The group worked to provide finishing touches that were needed for the new homeowners to move in. The final details included cleaning, touching up paint, installing blinds, sanding the deck, and more.
